Trip Description - Tamang Heritage Trail Trek

The Tamang Heritage Trail trekking route is one of the new and exclusive trails opened for foreigners in 2004, developed by Tourism for the Rural Poverty Alleviation Program. Trekkers will have the opportunity to experience some of the country’s most beautiful landscapes, such as natural excellence, Buddhist lifestyle, rich hill house architecture, beautiful desert landscapes, ancient natural wonders, terraced green plains of the Langtang Himalayas near the Tibetan border, dense forests and peaks. Style monasteries, lesser known traditional culture, language, and religious affiliation of the Tamang community with the vast Himalayas. The trek begins and ends at Syabrubesi. Pedestrians will take the AC deluxe scheduled bus to Syabrubesi and return to Kathmandu from Syabrubesi. In this eight-day moderate trek north of the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal, be close to the Tamang community while trekking between the green valleys and the snow-capped mountains. The Tamang Heritage Trail has the added benefit of providing sustainable economic benefits to the local community. It is located north of the Kathmandu Valley, the Tamang Heritage Trail is probably the most accessible trekking area in Nepal. An added bonus to the natural facilities is the opportunity to walk through the Tamang villages.

The Tamang tribes originally came from Tibet as horse traders and settled in the hilly parts of Nepal (usually near the Kathmandu Valley) hundreds of years ago. They have a distinct identity with Tibetan roots and their own language. They are historically the most marginalized ethnic group in Nepal. Unfortunately, they were the most affected group during the 2015 earthquake, as their homes were cut off from aid in areas at risk. The Tamang Sampada Padayatra helps bring a source of income for the Tamang community in the region. Tourists rarely visit this part of Nepal, which is close to the Langtang Valley. Tamang Heritage Trail is a gem trek for those who want to experience the local culture of Nepal. It gives you a chance to discover Tamang’s warm and authentic traditional Tibetan Buddhist culture. The sidewalk passes through Tamang village and has regular views of Langtang and Ganesh Himal. The Syabrubesi village has become a commercial hub for trekking in Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Lake. After the April 2015 earthquake, the road to Syabrubesi became the main transport and trade route from Tibet to the Tibetan border.

Gholjong can be climbed for up to 2 hours on the first day of trekking. After the ascent, you will be rewarded with an excellent view of the Ganesh mountain range. Goljong is an easy walk from Gatlang. The next day, Mani will descend into the Trishuli river through the wall and chortens. In Tatopani (“hot water” in Nepali), you can bathe in the natural hot water spring in the middle of the village. After the hot water, there is a vertical trek to the top of the Tamang Trail. The Nagthali Gang, at an altitude of 3,165 meters above sea level, can be reached through the forest. The traditional Tamang village of Thuman can be reached by walking from the view of the mountains. Thuman is a large village in the Langtang region where the locals live according to their old Buddhist tradition.

Thuman has ancient monasteries and traditional wood-carved houses. After Thuman, you will walk through the open grass of the rhododendron forest and another traditional Tamang village in Bridhim. From Bridhim you head for the river towards Syabrubesi. It is also possible to reach Langtang Valley and / or Gosaikunda Lake and Helambu from Bridhim.

    Accommodation offered during the trip

The accommodation we use may vary depending on our package travel and the range of travel destinations. Before or after the trip you can book comfortable hotels in cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara for your stay. If you book a tea house trekking trip, we will provide a small two-bed room for sharing in the hill lodges which is a basic facility but very clean.

Now, better-equipped lodges are also available in Annapurna and Everest areas but we recommend trekkers to use accommodation above 3,500 meters where clean rooms and clean food are readily available. Sometimes a level of flexibility may be required when trekking in remote mountain areas. We believe that you will complete your vacation without any problems and have the trip of a lifetime. If you book camping/trekking, our camping team will manage a comfortable camping site by the river where possible.

There will usually be a dedicated support team on the trip to move luggage and equipment, set up camp, and prepare your food. You will find more detailed information about travel accommodation which is mentioned separately in the lodging section of each vacation package page.

However, you can expect excellent service and high quality in any budget range you choose. You can learn more about different types of travel and their features and the proposed travel price by contacting us directly where we will be very pleased to answer your questions. We always try to choose comfortable accommodation with local character reflecting the best value based on twin share accommodation.

When you book a trip, unless you request a private single room, we will arrange for you to share a twin bed room with a person of the same gender. If you request a private single room, you will need to pay a single room supplementary fee. Please note that during the trek, if the destination is 4000 meters above sea level, only dormitory accommodation with private beds will be available. On trekking trips we try our best but do not promise guaranteed room options. For most of our camping trips, we supply branded two-person tents, including groundsheets.

Mess tent, kitchen tent, toilet tent, service plates, bowls, and all necessities are provided. Members of the mountaineering travel group are requested to manage according to the options given on the website.
