Trip Overview

Experience one of the world’s most iconic mountain biking adventures on the Annapurna Circuit Bike Tour — a 15-day high-altitude ride through Nepal’s legendary Annapurna Circuit. Tailored for experienced riders, this Annapurna Circuit Mountain Bike Tour combines challenging climbs, thrilling descents, and deep cultural immersion — all set against the majestic backdrop of the 8,000-meter Himalayan giants.

From the subtropical lowlands of Besisahar to the glacial heights of Thorong La Pass (5,416 m), and down into the windswept valleys of Muktinath and the Kali Gandaki Gorge, every stage of Annapurna Circuit Mountain Bike Tour journey is packed with natural diversity and technical terrain. You'll ride ancient trade routes, remote jeep tracks, and flowing singletrack, weaving through landscapes few riders ever see on two wheels.

But this isn’t just a ride — it’s an exploration of Nepal’s mountain soul. You’ll share trails with yak caravans, overnight in traditional teahouses, soak in hot springs at Tatopani, and visit centuries-old Buddhist monasteries nestled deep in the Himalayas. With professional guides, porter support, and curated logistics, you’ll be free to focus on the ride — and the incredible places it takes you.

Annapurna Circuit Mountain Bike Tour is not a beginner’s tour though. It’s a physically demanding and technically rewarding adventure designed for serious mountain bikers with an appetite for altitude, adrenaline, and authenticity.

The Annapurna Circuit Mountain Bike Tour is a physically and technically demanding expedition designed for experienced riders. Freqeuntly Asked Questions

The currency of Nepal is officially recognized as the Nepalese Rupee (NPR). Cash is the most commonly used form of payment, especially in remote areas and during treks. ATMs are available in major cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara, but may be limited or unavailable along trekking routes, so it’s best to carry sufficient cash in small denominations when heading into the mountains.

Yes, most visitors from various countries need a visa to enter Nepal. You can obtain a tourist visa upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or at various land border crossings. Alternatively, you can apply online through Nepal's official immigration website. You can obtain a tourist visa with options for 15, 30, or 90-day stays. Chinese nationals are exempt from the visa fee.

To travel to Nepal, you must have a valid passport with at least six months of remaining validity, a tourist visa (either obtained on arrival or pre-approved), and, in some cases, proof of your travel itinerary. While not mandatory, it is strongly recommended to carry additional supporting documents, such as travel insurance, flight details, hotel bookings, and vaccination records, especially if you're traveling to remote areas or planning trekking activities.

There is no need for mandatory vaccinations to enter Nepal. However, it is advisable to get vaccinated against Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, Tetanus, and Rabies, especially if you plan to visit remote areas. Additionally, COVID-19 vaccinations may be required based on current regulations, so it is recommended to check the latest travel advisories for Nepal before your departure.

The baggage allowance for domestic flights in Nepal varies depending on the route. For flights to mountain sectors, such as Lukla, Jomsom, and Dolpo, the typical baggage allowance is 10 kg (22 lbs) for checked luggage and 5 kg (11 lbs) for hand luggage. These routes are often used for trekking, so the luggage limits are generally more restrictive. On the other hand, for trunk routes connecting cities like Pokhara, Biratnagar, Bharatpur, Bhadrapur, Nepalgunj, and Janakpur, the allowance is typically higher. These flights allow 20 kg (44 lbs) for checked luggage and 5 kg (11 lbs) for hand luggage. For both types of routes, any excess baggage is subject to an additional charge, which is calculated per kilogram and should be paid directly at the airport.

For the Annapurna Circuit Mountain Bike Tour, you need comprehensive travel insurance that covers high-altitude activities up to 5,416 meters. Your policy should include medical treatment (including altitude sickness and injuries), emergency evacuation—especially helicopter rescue—search and rescue operations, trip cancellation, interruption or delays, and coverage for lost, stolen, or damaged gear (particularly if you're bringing your own bike). Ensure mountain biking is specifically listed as a covered activity. Recommended providers include World Nomads, Allianz, Cover-More, UNIQA, and the British Mountaineering Council (BMC), all known for offering solid coverage for adventure travel in Nepal.

Proper preparation is essential for a safe and enjoyable mountain biking tour in Nepal. Start training several weeks in advance, focusing on cardiovascular fitness, leg strength, and endurance riding. Practice biking on rough terrain and at elevation if possible, while wearing the gear you plan to use. Make sure your bike is in top condition or that you’re familiar with the specs if you're renting locally. Break in your biking shoes, helmet, and any protective gear to ensure comfort and safety. Learn about altitude sickness, its symptoms, and how to prevent it—hydration, gradual ascent, and proper rest are key. Pack wisely: bring layered clothing, rain protection, a tool kit, spare tubes, and a first-aid kit. Don’t forget essentials like sunscreen, sunglasses, and a headlamp. Lastly, double-check that your passport, permits, and travel insurance are up to date. Your insurance should cover high-altitude biking, medical emergencies, and emergency evacuation, including helicopter rescue if needed.

Yes, altitude sickness is a common concern for treks above 3,000 meters. To reduce the risk, it is important to ascend slowly, take rest days to allow your body to adjust, drink plenty of water, and avoid alcohol. Your trekking itinerary will typically include rest days to help with acclimatization. Medications like Diamox may help prevent altitude sickness, but it is essential to consult your doctor before traveling to high-altitude destinations or using any medication.

The Annapurna region offers some of Nepal’s most scenic and adventurous mountain biking routes. The most popular is the Annapurna Circuit Mountain Bike Tour, which takes riders across diverse terrain, remote villages, and over the high-altitude Thorong La Pass (5,416 m). Other notable biking-friendly routes include the Jomsom–Muktinath Trail, known for its desert landscapes and Mustang culture, the Lower Mustang loop, and segments of the Kali Gandaki Valley through Marpha, Tukuche, Kalopani, and Tatopani. While routes like Ghorepani–Poon Hill, Mardi Himal, and Tilicho Lake are primarily trekking trails, some sections can be adapted for experienced riders. These trails offer a mix of technical descents, jeep tracks, singletracks, and stunning Himalayan views, making the Annapurna region a top destination for mountain biking enthusiasts.

The best time for biking or trekking in the Annapurna region is during spring (March to April) and autumn (September to November). These seasons offer clear skies, mild temperatures, blooming rhododendrons, and stunning Himalayan views—ideal conditions for outdoor adventure. Summer (May to June) can also be a good option, especially in rain-shadow areas like Upper Mustang, which remain relatively dry. However, the monsoon season (July to August) brings heavy rainfall, muddy trails, leeches, and increased risk of landslides, making most routes difficult. Winter (December to February) is cold at higher altitudes, but with the right gear, lower-elevation biking or trekking routes are still accessible and rewarding.

The Annapurna Circuit Mountain Bike Tour is considered challenging and best suited for riders with good physical fitness, prior mountain biking experience, and some familiarity with high-altitude environments. The route covers diverse and rugged terrain, including steep climbs, rocky descents, and high-altitude passes, with the most demanding section being the crossing of Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters (17,769 feet). The tour typically takes 12 to 16 days, depending on the specific route, rest/acclimatization days, and pace. While the trails offer breathtaking Himalayan views, cultural encounters, and technical riding challenges, altitude sickness is a real concern—so proper acclimatization and gradual ascent are essential. With good preparation, the Annapurna Circuit by bike is an unforgettable and rewarding adventure.

Temperatures in the Annapurna region vary significantly depending on altitude and season. During spring (March–April) and autumn (September–November)—the most popular seasons for biking and trekking—daytime temperatures at lower elevations range from 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F). At higher altitudes like Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m) or Thorong La Pass (5,416 m), nighttime temperatures can drop below freezing, typically between -5°C to -15°C (23°F to 5°F). In winter (December–February), it gets even colder above 3,000 meters, with snow, wind chill, and extreme cold conditions. Adventurers should pack insulated layers, thermal base wear, and a sleeping bag rated for sub-zero temperatures to stay safe and comfortable at high elevations.

Essentials typically include a warm down jacket, thermal layers, a sleeping bag rated to -10°C or lower, cycling shoes or trekking boots, a helmet, headlamp, gloves, sun hat or beanie, padded cycling shorts, trekking poles, and a basic first aid kit.
