Trekking in Nepal – Complete Checklist and Everything You Need to Know | Jagadamba Holidays

Embarking on a trek in Nepal is an unforgettable adventure, but careful preparation is key to a safe and enjoyable journey. At Jagadamba Holidays, we’ve compiled a comprehensive checklist to help you plan every step of your trip—from pre-departure preparations to essential trekking gear.

Before You Arrive in Nepal

Health and Safety

  • Immunizations: Nepal doesn’t mandate vaccinations, but it’s wise to check recommended vaccines before traveling. Review our Safety guide for details, and consult the Pre-existing Conditions section if you have specific health concerns.
  • Travel Insurance: Ensure your travel insurance covers trekking emergencies, including helicopter rescues. Register your itinerary with your embassy before departure. Our Safety section provides detailed guidance on insurance and embassy registration.

Travel Essentials

  • Flight Tickets: Book your international flights to Kathmandu in advance.
  • Accommodation: Kathmandu offers a wide range of hotels. Pre-booking is convenient, but rooms are generally available on arrival.
  • Packing Tips: Keep valuables in your hand luggage, as airport baggage handling in Kathmandu may be unpredictable.

At the Airport in Kathmandu

  • Visa on Arrival: Most nationalities can get a visa on arrival. Fees: USD 30 (15 days), USD 50 (30 days), or USD 125 (90 days), payable in multiple currencies. Bring your passport and a passport-size photo.
  • SIM Card: Stay connected with NTC or Ncell SIM cards. Make sure your phone is GSM-compatible.
